Desiccant Dehumidification
"The right tool for the job" describes desiccant dehumidification. Investing in the early stages of water loss can save thousands of dollars in reconstruction, repairs and loss of time. The faster the drying time, the lower the overall claim.
The fact that this technology is the fastest way to dry a building has been proven again and again. Desiccant dehumidification has removed more water, faster, from flooded buildings than any other process.

Fire Smoke, Odour and Soot Restoration
When a fire is burning, smoke and soot can travel and penetrate into other rooms through doorways, plumbing, ductwork and walls which can affect: paint, carpet, upholstery, drapes, clothing and any other family belongings.

Factors to consider
After a fire there are many factors that will affect the clean up.
What type of fire was it? What type of smoke is it? What rooms did the smoke travel to? and many other details. Because of the unique behaviours of smoke it is important to have trained technicians on the scene, that understand the behaviour of smoke and fire to ensure the cleanup is done properly.

Mould
We are members of both ASCR (Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration) and IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification).

History

Mould (mold) has been around since the beginning of time. While mould plays a positive role in making foods like cheese and producing drugs like penicillin, some moulds can be harmful if found in excess in an indoor environment. The conditions that we live in are similar to those that mould grows in--low light, little air movement, and temperatures at 20-30°C (68-86°F). Airtight buildings contribute to high mould growth. Of course, buildings that have, or have had, moisture problems/leaks are at a higher risk of having excessive mould. Mould breaks down organic matter and its food sources are items such as carpet, wood, paper, drywall, paneling, and ceiling tiles. As mentioned, not all moulds are toxigenic but it is wise to be cautious and realize the potential for toxicity as serious. Prudent public health practice indicates removal through clean up (remediation) as quickly as possible.

What are the Health Concerns?
Some moulds can produce mycotoxins which can cause health problems in humans and pets. Particularly vulnerable to illnesses are infants/children, elderly, people with immune-compromised systems, people with respiratory problems, and pregnant women.
Adverse health effects reported have included reoccurring nosebleeds, headaches, rashes, extreme fatigue, dizziness, memory loss, asthma, intestinal distress. As an information hungry society, we are learning more and more about high exposures to mould and its negative effects on our health. The old cliché "It's Better To Be Safe Than Sorry" appears to be a smart motto for today's world.

Structural Cleaning
Sometimes mould is present on metal, such as grid work in an acoustic tile ceiling in a doctor's office. The mould is not growing on the metal (mould doesn't feed off of non-organic material), it is growing on the dust and dirt on the metal. Sometimes cleaning the structures will suffice, sometimes the spores have migrated to the duct system and may have contaminated the whole HVAC system.

Demolition
Often, there are porous materials with excessive mould growth which need to discarded. Utilizing the correct type of containment stops spores from spreading throughout a structure, especially during the demolition phase.

Containment
We have the experience and the knowledge to set up the appropriate amount and type of containment. Not every job requires a full, air lock, negative pressure containment. Durrer Restoration & Contracting Services, know when to continue the containment through hallways in order to have a proper exit to the dumpster outside so as not to contaminate other areas of the structure.

Content Cleaning
Durrer Disaster Restoration Services can clean items such as desks, equipment, and even some books can be salvaged.

Environmental Hygenists
We utilize independent Environmental Hygenists to work along side of our experienced remediation crews. The job of the hygenists is to monitor and lab sample for mould, maintaining the highest quality of health and safety during the entire process. It is the final task of the Environmental Hygenist to test the area(s) of concern for the final clearance reports.

Infrared Thermography
It is one of the newest technology's available to the restoration industry and has proven invaluable. The ability to: 1)virtually see through walls, roofs, concrete and metal 2) Evaluate total heat loss of the building envelop or factory equipment and their electrical systems and 3) Accurately make assessments without damaging the structure!

It's uses are endless
1) Non-destructive for both the interior and exterior. Eliminates those costly repairs that result from the large access holes required by the hunt and seek method. Avoids the potential misdiagnosis.

2) Points clearly to the problem areas. The indicated problem areas are called an anomalie, and need to be addressed.

3) We can now verify the cause of the indicated anomalies by a visual inspection. Infrared Building Analysis takes the guess work away and starts a progressive, logical, common sense approach. Once we have the proper information, we can then recommend the appropriate solutions.
